Recovery Equipment

Posted by David Finch on 17th Dec 2022

If you wheel your Bronco, chances are you will need recovery gear to keep your adventures going! No matter how good the driver or spotter may be, you or a friend will eventually, if not already, need to be recovered on the trails. This should not be a concern if the correct recovery gear is carried along with you on your adventure. At NexGen Bronco we believe in HIGH quality gear that will keep your off-road adventures safe and buckin' wild! Here is a spotlight on some gear that will make your recovery as safe and successful as possible.

Recovery equipment comes in many different forms, from a simple point of recovery to a snatch block. Every piece of recovery gear has its situational use. The most important thing to remember when performing a vehicle recovery is safety! High quality gear is important when dealing with recovery. Not all equipment is created equally! Acquiring a tow strap from your local big box hardware store is kind to the pocket book.... but beware. These are often not rated or tested for the amount of force needed for a stuck vehicle. At minimum, our 6G Broncos need equipment rated at 15k lbs.

The first step in any recovery is to assess the situation. No two recoveries are identical. The skills you used at the last recovery may not be the solution for the next recovery.  In any type of recovery, you will first locate the attachment points. If your Bronco is equipped with a modular or capable bumper, it has eyelets. The quickest attachment is to install shackles to these eyelets. Anvil metal shackles are a secure method to make connections during a recovery.

Soft shackles are designed to be safer, stronger, lighter, and easier to use than the metal shackles. If a failure should occur, shards of metal will not become projectiles.Saber soft shackles perform at a superior level compared to other brands. At NexGen Bronco we search for HIGH Quality products that will not leave you stranded on the trails. SABER OFFROAD products have gone through destruction testing in a NATA accredited facility in Melbourne and has proven their quality in the Outback.

If you find yourself on the trails needing to make a rear recovery and no eyelets are available, the next product of discussion would solve your problems. The SABER Alloy Recovery Hitch can easily be attached to the trailer hitch and becomes an instant recovery attachment point. This hitch is made of Aircraft Grade 7075 Aluminum.  This makes it incredibly strong but lightweight.  Although there are several recovery hitches on the market, we found this to be of the highest quality. The Saber recovery hitch is soft shackle and rope friendly. *DO NOT attach to a regular ball style hitch. They are rated for 5000-8000 lbs.

Now that the attachment points have been established, you will need to connect your recovery rope. This is the most important part of the recovery operation. The rope needs to be strong enough to withstand forces of pulling up to four times the weight of our rigs. Kinetic recovery ropes are superior to regular off the shelf tow ropes. They have a stretch built in for more efficient energy transfer. The stretch also keeps the recovery more comfortable in the driver seat.  The best ropes we have found for this is SABER. Saber's kinetic recovery rope stretches over 30% keeping less strain on the vehicle and keeps all off-roaders in the area safe! That is more stretch than any other rope on the market. Make your recover safer than ever with the 26K lbs Kinetic Rope Recovery Kit

Sometimes self recovery is the only option. For that, a dependable HIGH quality winch is needed. At NexGen Bronco we go prepared with Warn Winches for our rigs. The most popular is the VR 12-S. These are the hardest working standard-duty winches Warn has manufactured.

At NexGen Bronco we keep your safety and wild adventures in mind. Although the Warn Winches are equipped with a hook, we suggest upgrading to a closed hook system for safer operation. Factor 55 or Saber have great options.

Would you like to double the pulling power of your winch? A pulley or snatch block is a great add on. Simply run the winch rope through the pulley and back to the vehicle. The #1 selling ring in the world is the Saber EZY-Glide Recovery Ring. *Must only be used with soft shackles and synthetic winch ropes.

Kits are an all in one solution to keep you moving on the trail. Winch kits, recovery kits, and rope kits are the a must have for off roading. We offer many HIGH quality solutions.
